Inaugural Architect Collaboration Program
At our Materiality Book launch last Spring (request a complimentary copy!), architects were introduced to our inaugural Architect Shape Collaboration Program, inviting them to submit their own custom brick shapes for consideration into our Collab Program. Glen-Gery's Inaugural Architects Collaboration Program invited architects, designers and students to submit original designs for custom brick shapes, offering winners the opportunity to become honorary members of Glen-Gery’s Research & Development Team.
“Brick’s versatility allows it to take on unique architectural forms like no other material. Glen-Gery’s bricks, known for their precision, beauty and durability, can bring even the most imaginative concepts to life,” said Tim Leese, director of marketing at Glen-Gery. “We’re thrilled to launch our first-ever Architect Collaboration Program to showcase brick’s limitless design possibilities while fostering meaningful collaboration and education within the architecture community.” View our Brick Shape Catalog
Chosen for their creative and innovative designs, the winners of Glen-Gery’s Architect Collaboration Program include:

Brittany Macomber
"Trigon Brick"
Morris Adjmi Architects
The Trigon Brick is a modern interpretation of classic brick details found on structural masonry walls. The dimension and depth of the brick provide versatility, allowing the brick to be expressed on its own, or integrated with modular bricks to create unique patterns.

Edward Jose
"Curve"
Loci Architecture
The Curve is a simple elongated curved brick that can be laid in various wall configurations to achieve different surface effects. The curve of the shape allows its thinner profile to reduce material and weight in a typical brick veneer cavity wall assembly while still maintaining stability. Its convex and concave surfaces can affect sound waves in urban environments with noisy street conditions.

Justin Bright
"Facet Brick"
Gnome Architects
Opposite corners of the Facet Brick are chamfered to create a diagonal facet on the front face. Depending on the orientation and coursing, this simple unit offers various patterns and textural effects.

Colin Rupp
"The Weaver"
Gnome Architects
This shape utilizes an alternating bevel, all within a standard size. The mirrored detailing allows for a unique set of weaving textures and plays with solid/void.

2025 Home Design Trends
2025 Home Design Trends
an exclusive Glen-Gery Q&A
What Home Design Trends Are Phasing Out in 2025?
White Minimalism is on the way out.
One home design trend we see fading is the ultra-minimalist, all-white aesthetic that has been a mainstay for years. While clean lines and simplicity are timeless—especially in modern home exteriors—many homeowners in 2025 are looking to infuse warmth, personality, and organic textures into their spaces. This shift reflects a growing desire for homes that feel cozy, grounded, and connected to nature.
Are There Alternative Design Choices to Replace Outgoing Trends?
Instead of the stark minimalism, we recommend “warm minimalism” for a more inviting feel. This look combines organic textures with earthy tones, bringing warmth to both interior and exterior spaces. For fans of a white color scheme, consider using warm whites with subtle yellow or pink undertones to add depth. Another idea is pairing white cabinetry with contrasting elements like textured wallpaper or a thin brick backsplash, adding personality without sacrificing a fresh look.
2025 Home Exterior Trends: Top Predictions
Earthy Tones for a Natural Look
Neutral colors like white and cream remain popular for modern home exteriors, but 2025 is all about warm, earthy tones. Expect to see deeper grays, soft browns, olive greens, and muted red tones. These colors, inspired by nature, create a sense of well-being and provide a beautiful complement to natural surroundings. Warm earth tones add sophistication and curb appeal, while integrating seamlessly with sustainable home designs.
Sustainable and Resilient Building Materials
Sustainability is a top priority in 2025, with eco-conscious homeowners seeking materials that reduce environmental impact and offer durability. Brick is an excellent choice for sustainable home exteriors due to its resilience, natural composition, and energy-efficient properties. Made from abundant materials like clay and shale, brick is a low-maintenance, recyclable option that supports long-term sustainability. Homeowners can enjoy the classic look and benefits of brick, which withstands weather and adds a timeless appeal.
Mixed Material Exteriors for Visual Interest
In 2025, homeowners are embracing texture to add character and dimension to their homes. Mixing materials like brick, wood, glass, and metal creates a visually layered effect that enhances both aesthetics and functionality. Brick combined with these other materials offers durability, variety, and a balanced contrast that adds unique visual interest to modern homes.
2025 Interior Design Trends: What to Expect
Silver Accents for Modern Elegance
Silver is set to be a top interior trend in 2025 for its timeless appeal. Our new Silver City matte grey brick draws inspiration from natural hues and adds an elegant, transitional tone to interiors. This versatile shade pairs effortlessly with various textures and colors, creating a sleek, adaptable style that complements both traditional and modern spaces.
Natural, Organic Materials
The focus on biophilic design continues in 2025 as homeowners choose organic, sustainable materials that bring nature indoors. Elements like bamboo, wood, stone, and brick are in demand for their ability to create warm, healthy, and eco-friendly living spaces. Brick is a popular choice due to its earthy aesthetic and wellness benefits, aligning perfectly with nature-inspired design.
Quiet Luxury for a Timeless, Sophisticated Look
“Quiet luxury” is a key trend in 2025, with an emphasis on understated elegance. Defined by quality and timelessness, quiet luxury favors subtle, refined spaces over flashy designs. Brick is an ideal material for this trend, offering a warm, organic feel that elevates both modern and traditional interiors.

Trends in Design and Renovation: A Comparative Study Among Homeowners and Architects
Trends in Design and Renovation: A Comparative Study Among Homeowners and Architects
a national survey revealing design and renovation preferences and trends
Glen-Gery conducted a survey of 2,000 Americans—1,500 homeowners and 500 architects—through Talker Research (formerly OnePoll US). This survey unveiled the most popular design trends of the last year. Leading the list were earth tones, “warm” minimalism, quiet luxury, traditional design with a contemporary twist and the use of textures and shapes. Both homeowners and architects emphasized these trends, along with a continued emphasis on sustainable designs.
“This survey reflects our ongoing commitment to understanding the pulse of the design community, understanding that the future of design hinges on collaboration and feedback,” said Tim Leese, marketing director for Glen-Gery. “By engaging with architects and homeowners, we want to uncover insights that will help us remain at the forefront of innovation, delivering products that not only meet current trends but also anticipate future needs. This will ensure we’re best able to reflect the aspirations, needs and preferences of an ever-changing market.”
Architects and Homeowners Unite in Preference for Brick as Key Exterior Material
Approximately 4 in 10 architects and homeowners both consider brick to be timeless and traditional, with architects also valuing its sustainable qualities and homeowners emphasizing its low-maintenance benefits. Brick remains a popular choice for exterior design with 67% of architects and 49% of homeowners responding that it is important for a home’s exterior to be brick. Of those 49% of homeowners, younger generations are placing increased importance on a home’s exterior being brick (64% Millennials and 68% Gen Z). Read more about the Unbeatable Benefits of Brick and why it continues to be the top desired building material.
Intent to Buy or Build a Home is Strong for the Future
With real estate demand fluctuating across the country due to inventory shortages and record-breaking home prices, 47% of respondents indicated they plan to build or buy a home (or additional home) in the future, with 25% planning to do so in the next 12 months. Of those respondents, 86% of architects compared to 34% of homeowners noted they are planning to build or buy a home (or additional home) in the future.
Sustainable Design Trends Gain Momentum Among Architects and Younger Generations of Homeowners
Sustainability remained a prominent focus with 78% of architects expressing concern about sustainability in new project design or renovations, while 58% of homeowners shared similar concerns regarding home decor and renovation. Generationally, younger generations—32% of Gen Z and 26% of Millennials were more interested in seeing sustainable design trends in 2024. Additionally, sustainability strongly impacted brand and product selection for architects securing 60% of responses. Many Glen-Gery brick product contain recycled content, view the products. Not only is brick better for your health, but it’s also better for our planet. The shale and clay that bricks are made from is naturally abundant, so brick is an environmentally sensitive option. They can be reused, keeping their original properties and features intact, or even recycled. And, because bricks do not contain harsh chemicals, plastics or artificial compounds, brick homes are healthy environments to live in.
Sources of Inspiration: Home and Building Design, Décor, and Renovation
When it comes to home and building design, 53% architects are drawing inspiration from interior designers, 46% from home improvement shows such as HGTV. However, Gen Z architects are much less likely to use home improvement shows for inspiration, and more likely to use social media such as TikTok. 47% of homeowners are also drawing their inspiration from home renovations shows, and 36% from magazines. Millennial homeowners are more likely to find inspiration from an interior designer.
Cost Tops List of Influencing Factors on Material Selection for Home and Building Projects
When choosing materials for home or building design, cost was the main factor influencing brand and product for both architects and homeowners. For architects, sustainability also played a significant role in decision-making, followed by product availability. Meanwhile, homeowners also prioritized how the materials will complement the other brands or products they’ve selected, along with the convenience and ease of purchase.
“As Glen-Gery’s national survey reveals, the enduring allure of brick remains steadfast,” said Leese. “While there are many influences on why someone might choose brick for their home or building design, one reason stands out on why brick remains popular—it seamlessly balances beauty with function.”
“Whether through our Brickworks Design Studios or Supply Centers, architects, designers, builders, contractors and homeowners can collaborate to discover the dynamic uses and aesthetics brick can deliver as they bring their design visions to life. From grand, custom homes to sleek commercial properties, brick provides the resiliency and flexibility necessary to meet today’s building requirements without compromising on design aesthetic,” said Leese.
